It got too big for itself ...
The original owners (Lee Harvey, Fred Hampton, Etc) were only capable of
putting an ISDN line in their office, which is slightly better bandwidth than having
3 phone lines tied together ... With over 100+ members posting messages at any given
time, they couldn't keep up with the bandwidth demand(s) the site needed ...
I believe they also paid PER MEGABYTE the site consumed, which was VERY costly at that time ...
(Why they didn't just CableModem it at the time, I'll never know) ...
Remember how laggy it was? A single post took almost a minute to show up on the site ...
And as far as content; well, it's pretty tame (for the most part) compared to what is generally
considered "acceptable" on sites nowadays ... Back then; issues galore ...
I miss it a lot, however, for a site called "anti-social", I'm still close friends with the main
core of regular members/posters to this very day ... 2+ decades later ....
